Fit Review: Refresh Maxi Dress in Solid Colors, Heathered Jewelled Magenta and Heathered Poseidon Cool Racerbacks

by Cristina

Not a lot of store photos today and since I’ve dedicated my day to blogging for the upload I thought I’d share some photos of new pieces. Vancouver area stores got the Refresh Maxi Dress in yesterday (hopefully US gets them uploaded tonight) so I got to try on the solid color ones. I really love my Black/White one (review here) but I was also intrigued by the Heathered Grey. I think the Black Cherry fits a bit snugger than the other two but the material is vitasea and it will stretch out while  still retaining shape. Both are size 10’s which is my usual size but if I could I would have sized up to a 12 for a loose fit since I’m hippier. TTS is fine though. I’m liking the grey more than the Black Cherry. The length is just right for my 5’4 height with birkenstocks but if I want to wear them with flip flops I may need to hem them an inch (free at lululemon stores).

Heathered Poseidon and Heathered Jewelled Magenta Cool Racerback TTS 10

I’m in love with these two new Cool Racerbacks. They are Heathered which translates to feeling silky. I know some of you prefer the softer cottony solid colors but I love both the solids for a more subtle look, or heathered if I feel like something funner and brighter. I don’t find them sheer but I think of the two, Jewelled Magenta may show a dark bra underneath

I received my order with size 6 refresh maxi in heathered bordeaux and size 6 and size 8 in hyper stripe inkwell. The heathered bordeaux (size 6) showed every lump and bump and pulled in an unflattering way at the hips. Keeping the 6 in stripes, I didn't find that it was snug or pulled at all the same the way the bordeaux dress did, maybe the stripes made it a flattering fit 🙂 I found the size 8 bunched at the rib cage and at the hips and generally looked too big on me. I can easily wear birkenstocks with it and do not need to get it hemmed. For reference I am 5`5“, 32/27/37. I love the super soft material too!

Yes! totally agree. Thank you for verbalizing that for me. The Bordeaux/Black Cherry was pulling in a bit of an odd way at the slits.

Lulumum, did you get the grey one? I have the same black striped one as you and I love it. I would say it is a fitted TTS, but relaxes a bit with wear. I am contemplating getting the grey one but unsure if the solid light colour is too unforgiving. (I tried mine on with the white iconic wrap and it looks great.) I can see myself wearing it a lot this summer.

Did you stick to the same size for the black stripe and the grey? I am going to try to get it sent from a store as I am not near one. Thanks for all your useful information! I love your blog and refer to it on a daily basis 😉

Yah! I managed to get the grey in a 6 shipped to me! The grey is such an easy colour to coordinate with. These dresses will be a staple this summer. I can even see wearing these over a swimsuit. Thanks !

I did, I picked it up to photograph for the blog and I really do like the grey. I liked the black white, then the grey, then the navy small striped one. The black cherry/bordeaux I am not liking as much as the others. My sister however loves the Bordeaux one on me over the black/white stripe.

Thanks so much for reading! 🙂 Yes, Navy stripe, black white and grey are all the same size/fit the same. The only 'off' one was the bordeaux/black cherry.
Call stores and see if they will ship to you! I've had really great luck with that.

Thank you so much for your reviews! They've been so helpful. I picked up the Black/White in my normal size 8 today. I wasn't going to even try the maxi dresses until I read your reviews :). Like you, I also didn't like the Black Cherry and found the fit a little strange. I was tempted to pick up the grey as well, but instead just got the jeweled magenta crb. I have spent small fortune at lulu lately and needed some restraint – ha! Thanks for your blog!!

I tried the heathered Poseidon crb today in store, and found it very thin and a little scratchy. I have passed on it for now, but might go back for it in a day or so if I find myself thinking about it!

Do you wear a sport bra with your maxi dresses? If so, which bra do you think works/looks best? Love your blog and tips!

I wear a convertible Victoria Secret Bra which I can wear the regular way with tee shirts or cross the back for a Cool Racerback or other racerback style. If I were to wear a sports bra with this it would probably be the Ebb and Flow Bra which is the only one that doesn't give me Uniboob. And I'd probably double up the cups for extra shape.
Thanks for reading!

Both colors of the maxi dress in this post look very nice on you. I ended up buying the black cherry in 2 different sizes because I wasn't sure what might fit. The problem is that I think I'm in-between sizes, so just wanted to get your opinion as to whether vitasea fabric either shrinks or stretches out. When I asked the store eds, they gave me the company line (which may be accurate actually) how vitasea doesn't shrink and shouldn't stretch out. I don't own any items in vitasea, so would really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

Thank you! I think this is a great piece.
Although vitasea does retain it's shape and it's preshrunk, it does have mechanical stretch to it as well as lycra so it will relax with wear and then when you wash it it will bounce back to it's original shape and not shrink. It will not bag out or get oversized but it definitely will relax with body heat and movement in a very nice way. I think you should wear your TTS around the house for a bit (tags on) and see if you are comfortable with that size. If so I'd be inclined to stay TTS vs sizing up.I think general the people sizing up are like me and are very hippy but if you have narrower hips you should definitely be fine in your TTS.

Super helpful response, thanks! And I really appreciate your comment about how the hips fit. I'm not hippy, so the size up (6) feels very loose in the hips and shows several flaws in the seams/stitching down the sides around the hip area (gotta say, the black cherry was poorly sewn, showing lumpiness in the loose fabric around the hips, particularly on one side). However, unfortunately, the size down (4) feels a little bit snug around the chest area, although the hip section feels perfect and fits just snug enough so that you can't see any lumpiness in the side seams. So, I guess my problem is that I'm a 6 on top and a 4 on bottom, which is actually true for me in lulu items. Ultimately, I think I'llprobably just keep the 4 and be happy with your advice that they'll relax a little bit during wear. Thanks so much!
